This is a real hidden gem. It is a little difficult to find and it doesn’t appear in many camp site guides, but is well worth a visit.
The park is mainly a retirement/ holiday village with a bar/restaurant and a 9 hole golf course. The touring section is well away from the main village in a large gently sloping field running down to the River Orwell Estuary. The toilet and shower facilities are excellent, with individual private showers and toilets. The pitches are large and mainly on gravel standings.
We bowled up in mid August at short notice and there were lots of pitches with an electrical hook up available. Most of the pitches are around a large oval central green, which has some permanent barbeques for visitors to use. Beware that some of the pitches are a little steep so you will need chocks and levelling blocks.
Other facilities on the complex include an outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. The whole site is beautifully maintained and generally has a very upmarket feel about it..
Security is excellent and the site is guarded by large wrought iron gates, for which you need a four digit security code to enter. On this subject, this is probably why the site is not very well known. As you approach Priory Park you have to drive along a private road for about ½ mile and as you enter the complex you actually pass another separate caravan site on the left. The entrance to Priory Park is about another 200 yards on and looks more like the entrance to a grand country estate rather than a caravan park. I would take a bet that a fair proportion of visitors to Priory Park actually end up in on the wrong site and don’t even realise it.
I would definitely recommend this site to anyone looking for a nice peaceful break with top quality facilities.
