Four Star Review

We have visited Roundhill in June 2007 and May 2008. Having been to other Forest Holidays sites in the area, I had expected more trees. In fact, as a former RAF base (I think!) this is much more open than many of the local sites, sitting as it does, between dense woodland and the open heath that extends south and west towards Bealieu and Bucklers Hard.

Facilities are, as usual on these sites, rather basic. The temporary buildings housing washrooms are now clad in timber, and much improved as a result.

Wandering the site are the usual ponies and cattle, with the added interest of a small pond where kids can fish and ponies like to bathe. In our case, we caught no fish, but my five year old son spent many happy hours trying, which is rather the point, I feel.

This is a great site for groups - pitches are not marked, and there are low hedges that help to create areas where a group can feel settled and discreet.

I highly recommend this park for a quiet weekend break, especially as a base for visiting the coast at lymington or the entertainments at Beaulieu, and for walking and cycling on the heath and in the forest. There is also a fascinating model aircraft club located about a mile away across the heath, with stunning models performing impressive acrobatics.

Much to enjoy.
