Practical Caravan Top 100 Parks Award 2008
Thanks to the location this site puts the best of south Devon in reach all at once. It is set in rolling green countryside but is still within walking distance of a beach. It is also close to the lovely seaside resort of Torquay, on the English Riviera. Here you can walk along the palm-lined promenade past beautiful seaside gardens and enjoy the sights of an international marina. You will also find cafés, pubs, restaurants and all the entertainment and activities
of a seaside town that you could possibly desire.
The fishing port of Brixham is just two miles away. You can buy
fresh fish from the undercover fish quay at Brixham’s pretty harbour, or take a stroll around the marina to admire the boats and enjoy
a coffee or lunch in the open-air café/restaurant. Brixham’s beach
is mainly shingle or pebbles, but Mansands beach is 2.5 miles away.
If your family craves more active entertainment, a golf course, tennis courts, horseriding, fishing, sailing and a zoo are all within
an easy drive of the site.
If this leaves any gaps in the perfect family holiday, the on-site activities will complete the picture. An outdoor heated pool, play area, games room, recreation field, skateboard ramp and club with good entertainment for children and adults will keep you busy for as long as you are away from home.
Grass and hardstanding pitches are available, many have stunning views of the sea and all are within easy reach of washroom and laundry facilities.

Practical Caravan Top 100 parks Award 2007
As the Caravan Club’s first foray into the holiday park arena, Hillhead has been a great success. It’s a beautiful site, with superb facilities and highly professional, courteous and friendly wardens. As ever, the Caravan Club sets the standards when it comes to washing amenities, but what best sells this site is its beautiful views across Brixham Bay. These can be enjoyed from the dog walk or the children’s play area – not that the kids will bother taking in the vista with a play fort and skateboard ramp to enjoy.
The operation of other facilities, located to one side of the main entrance, are contracted out. They comprise an extensive complex that features a large two-part swimming pool, with a toddlers’ paddling pool and a bigger swimming area, and a terrace adjacent to the restaurant. There’s also a bar, an entertainment area with a games room and a Spar shop, all surrounding an open-air patio. In high season, a varied programme of entertainment is organised for both adults and children.
The pitches are separated by leylandii hedging which, although trimmed, makes the site look more continental than British. Don’t forget your levelling blocks – not only are pitches smaller than usual for Club sites, but around 50 of them are slightly sloping.

Hillhead reopened in 2004 under new management: this was the Caravan Club’s first foray into the holiday park arena and, as a virgin venture, it got very little wrong.

Practical Motorhome Independent Site Reviews.
Vaunted by its owners, The Caravan Club, as 'the Club Site like no other', this site was formerly the Hillhead Holiday Camp and re-opened in 2004 following a two-year, £3m development - and it shows.
A beautifully appointed reception office provides the usual high standard of welcome, with a wide, curving, one-way access road, and visitors' parking bays and late night arrivals area.
Once on the site, you may be surprised by the non-traditional pitches separated by leylandii hedging which make it look more continental than British. The pitches themselves are often smaller and more sloping than Club members are used to.
Taking that into account, it is still a beautiful site with superb facilities and highly professional, courteous and friendly wardens. The two large toilet blocks have been constructed to the highest standards and are maintained to spotless perfection. A large children's play fort and adjacent skateboard ramp are located near the recreation field and the separate dog walk, both with stunning views over Brixham Bay.
Other facilities comprise a complex which includes a large swimming pool with two areas - one is a toddlers' paddling area, the other a larger swimming area. The pool has a terrace adjacent to a restaurant, and there is a bar, entertainment area with games room, and a fully-stocked Spar shop, all surrounding an open-air patio. In high season, a programme of entertainment is organised for both adults and children.
A programme to level some pitches, widen access roads and plant more trees has meant that Hillhead has become one of the CaravanClub's best sites.

OVERALL WINNER
Vaunted by its owners, the Caravan Club, as ‘the club site like no other’,
the former Hillhead Holiday Camp was re-opened in 2004 following a two-year, £3 million development project. And it shows.
A beautifully appointed reception office provides the usual Club standard
of welcome and the wide, curving, one-way access road has visitors’ parking bays and a late night arrivals area. Once on the site proper, you may be surprised by the non-traditional pitches separated by leylandia hedging which, although trimmed back, give it an appearance
that is almost Continental.
The pitches on this beautiful site are compact, often with a gentle slope and vistas that can stretch to Dorset. The facilities are superb, and the wardens are highly professional, courteous and friendly.
The two large toilet buildings have been constructed to the highest standard and are maintained to spotless perfection. A large, new children’s play fort and adjacent skateboard ramp are near the recreation field and the separate dog walk, both with stunning views of Brixham Bay.
Other facilities include a sizeable complex that includes a large two-area swimming pool – a toddlers’ paddling area and a larger swimming area – with a terrace adjacent to a restaurant, a bar, an entertainment area with games room and a fully-stocked Spar shop, all surrounding a spacious patio. In high season, a varied programme of entertainment is organised for both adults and children.
